The effect of inundation on frog communities and chorusing behaviour

Globally, river regulation has degraded wetlands, including parts of the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB), an ecologically significant basin in Australia. Frogs a floodplain environment largely depend on habitats created by flows, but little is known about how frogs northern MDB are impacted regulation. We tested wetland inundation affected catchment MDB. surveyed between 2015 and 2019 to determine long-term changes community composition associated with from flows. Additionally, we recorded nightly soundscapes for four days before after arrival flows 2020. The abundance richness frog species increased during larger events leading altered (beta diversity). Warmer temperatures richness, dominance decreased decreasing vegetation cover (i.e., relative became more even across species). five (Limnodynastes tasmaniensis, Limnodynastes fletcheri, Crinia parinsignifera, Litoria peronii, latopalmata) was higher response extent. total chorusing flows; six chorused over nights preceding flow, whereas eight following flow arrival, responses varied among sites. Frog at three sites not others. After inundation, choruses tasmaniensis fletcheri decreased. Our findings indicate that beneficial communities suggest behaviour inundating wetlands.
